An aquatic plants lagooning system built to serve a community toilet complex for 300 women

Very small land holdings, high water table and a dependency on open wells for most uses render conventional sanitation choices unsuitable.  Here a dry toilet is sited close to a well and poses no pollution threat.

This is not scavenging! The product from these toilets smells like good garden soil. It has to be seen to be believed. It has a market value as a clean organic soil improver.

The product from these toilets is safe and inoffensive to handle.

Bananas growing on direct-feed urine and wash water (we also grow bittergourd, chillies and potted plants).

Compost toilets in rurban Kerala …..and what many fisherwomen had to face before.

This is the only appropriate sanitation solution in areas with high water table and/or subject to inundation.

Reaching hearts and minds. Street dramas raise awareness of hygiene, health, water and the environment…
